Apple’s App Store nearing 25 billionth app sold

Apple’s app store opened its virtual doors on July 10, 2008 with an update to iTunes, the very next day the iPhone 3G was released and people have been downloading apps ever since.  Less than 4 years later the store is nearing the 25,000,000,000 mark and it shows no sign of slowing, with the explosion in sales of its mobile devices the rate of downloads is growing faster than ever.  In fact, PC Magazine has reported that more than 15 billion apps were sold since January 2011 alone.  In typical Apple fashion it will be celebrating the event by giving out a $10,000 App Store Gift Card to that lucky person who downloads the 25 billionth app.  A counter has been set up so that you watch the number slowly creep up towards another milestone in Apple history.  Keep an eye on the counter so that you can time your own download.  Full contest rules can be found here, apparently no purchase is necessary.
