If you are thinking about picking up a MacBook Pro laptop computer within the next couple of weeks you may want to hold back on your purchase. Digitimes has recently reported that Apple is readying a slimmer version of its MacBook Pro line of laptops for release as early as the next couple of weeks. The slimmer design will be possible since it is expected to lose its optical drive. To continue to differentiate it from the MacBook Air line, the Pro will have more advanced specifications, including a faster processor and more memory. The Apple launch is expected to coincide with the release of Windows ultrabook computers that incorporate new Intel Ivy Bridge processors which is the successor to the Sandy Bridge architecture. Initial shipments of the 13″ and 15″ MacBook Pro models are expected to be in the 100,000-150,000 range.
