Google Maps 3D to be introduced on June 6

In what seems like a pre-emptive strike, Google has sent out invitations to the press for a maps event on June 6.  Apple is also expected to introduce a revamped mapping application at its Developers Conference on June 11.  It has been reported that the boys in Cupertino have actually developed their own in-house application and plan to drop Google maps from its devices.  Meanwhile, Google has promised a “…behind-the-scenes look at Google Maps and share our vision.” which is expected to include a 3D mapping feature.  The vice-president of Google Maps and Google Earth is expected to take the stage in San Francisco at 12:30 EST.
