Samsung drops universal search on Sprint Galaxy S III

Likely in response to the legal wrangling that is ongoing between itself and Apple, Samsung has reportedly removed the unified search function on Sprint’s Galaxy S III. Apple actually received an injunction blocking shipments of the Galaxy Nexus phone with the search functionality (local as well as web based search) being one of the major patent infringements. So if you want to retain the universal search you may want to hold off on the Over The Air (OTA) update from Sprint or download a previous version of the phone’s OS. Updates, specifically Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean update) are also being reported to be rolling out to Galaxy Nexus devices across North America, no word yet on whether the search functionality is being removed in those as well.
