Update: If you are still interested in getting a new iPhone and have not already signed up for a pre-order anywhere it may still be worthwhile checking in person with your local electronics retailers. I just picked up a pre-order at my local Future Shop and there were still a number of as yet unclaimed iPhone 5’s. Not all models were available, it seems that the lower capacity models are more popular, but if you are looking for a 64 GB model you may still be able to find one around.
If you haven`t had any luck getting through to your favourite carrier`s website to get a pre-order you now have another option. Both Futureshop and Best Buy are now accepting pre-orders for Apple`s latest device. Starting today (September 15) you can pre-order the iPhone 5 by placing a $50 deposit at the store, you then show up on September 21 to pick up your phone. In order to ease up on the congestion on launch day, Futureshop says that it will call its clients before the launch to get appointments setup. It is not certain how many devices these electronic box stores will have on launch day but you may want to give it a try. Another option is to line up at your carrier`s retail outlets or your local Apple store on the day of launch, these will be open at 8:00 am on September 21.
