The open source code for the Touch Developer Preview of Ubuntu will be released on February 21. This version will support the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones. The preview is intended to give hobbyists and developers alike a chance to familiarize themselves with Ubuntu’s mobile experience and hopefully develop applications. According to the Press Release, the code release will enable developers to port Ubuntu Touch to other devices since it supports a wide range of screen sizes and resolutions. When completed, Canonical has promised that the Ubuntu code will allow a convergence of devices, allowing the same code to be used on mobile, tablet, desktop or TV environments. It is hoped then when Ubuntu 13.10 is released in October, an app written on it should be able to run on any Ubuntu enabled device.
