Just in time for those summer road trips, Google has released version 2.0 of its popular Maps App for iOS. The new version brings: improved navigation; live traffic updates; indoor maps with directions for malls, transit stations and airports; and simple 5 star ratings and reviews of restaurants, plus content from Zagat. This update also brings for the first time, native iPad support. Another hidden feature (as it has not been fully implemented) is offline maps. This new feature is activated by typing “ok maps” into the search box, this will save the map area that you are viewing, making it available for offline navigation. This data can be cleared from your device’s cache memory by going to the “Clear application data” setting in the “Settings – About, terms & privacy” tabs. So head on over to your Apps icon on your iDevice to receive the latest update.
The Android version of the new Google Maps has been available for almost a week while the web version has just gone live today.
